Resin Paving In Bournemouth
Need Resin Paving For A Larger Or Commercial Space In The Bournemouth Area?
Hard-Wearing, Permeable Resin Bound Paving For Car Parks, Forecourts, Communal Areas And Larger Residential Hardstanding
As well as residential driveways and patios, we install resin bound paving for larger and commercial applications across the BCP area and wider Dorset. Car parks and commercial forecourts, communal parking courts on housing developments, school and care home grounds, retail and leisure entrance areas, and larger residential hardstanding where a better finish than plain tarmac is needed. The BCP area has seen a lot of residential development in recent years - particularly around Canford Heath, Bearwood and parts of Poole - and resin paving is increasingly the finish of choice on shared and communal surfaces where appearance and low long-term maintenance both matter.
Every commercial resin paving project starts with a site assessment where we look at sub-base requirements, traffic loading, drainage design and the right specification for the use. The quote is free, the advice is honest, and every installation comes with our 10-year workmanship guarantee.

Where Resin Paving Works Well
Car Parks
Resin bound paving handles regular vehicle traffic well when specified correctly for the loading and use. The permeable surface manages surface water without complex drainage infrastructure, which can significantly reduce overall project cost on larger areas. We specify the right depth and aggregate for the expected traffic levels.
Communal Parking Areas
A clean, durable finish for shared parking courts and communal areas on residential developments. Resin requires less long-term maintenance than block paving - no re-sanding, no weed treatment, no individual block subsidence to repair - which makes it well suited to areas where maintenance responsibility is shared or managed through a service charge.
Commercial Forecourts
Retail, hospitality and leisure businesses in Bournemouth and Poole use resin paving for entrance areas and forecourts where appearance and drainage both matter. The wide colour range means it can be matched to brand colours or property materials, and the smooth finish is easy to keep clean and presents well to customers.
Footpaths And Pedestrian Areas
Public and semi-public footpaths - school approach paths, housing estate walkways, care home grounds, park routes - benefit from resin's slip-resistant texture and low maintenance. The smooth, joint-free surface is also easier to navigate for wheelchair users and people with pushchairs than block or slab alternatives.
School And Care Home Grounds
Entrance areas, car parks and path networks where safety, low maintenance and appearance all matter. Resin bound surfacing is slip-resistant in wet weather, has no loose material that can be picked up and thrown, and doesn't produce the puddles and moss growth that flat slabs develop on shaded areas over time.
Large Residential Hardstanding
Larger properties with significant hardstanding areas, courtyard parking, turning circles or extended driveway networks. Where tarmac would look plain and block paving would require ongoing maintenance, resin provides a better-looking, lower-maintenance alternative that can be designed around the property's architectural style.
Specifying The Right System For Larger Areas
The specification for a commercial or large residential resin paving project is different from a standard driveway. Depth, aggregate size and sub-base design all change depending on the anticipated loading. A pedestrian-only path needs a different spec from a car park serving articulated deliveries. Getting this wrong - using a residential specification on a commercial site, for example - results in premature surface failure.
We carry out a proper site assessment before quoting any larger project, which includes checking the existing ground conditions, reviewing drainage requirements, and specifying the right depth and aggregate for the expected use. We also consider SuDS compliance where this is relevant for planning purposes, which is increasingly common for new commercial surfaces across the BCP area.
Every commercial installation comes with our 10-year workmanship guarantee. For larger projects we can also provide a method statement and programme of works if this is needed for procurement or planning purposes.
Most commercial resin paving enquiries we receive in the BCP area come from property managers and developers wanting to replace tired tarmac on communal areas - the long-term maintenance saving is usually the deciding factor.

Resin vs Block Paving vs Tarmac
How resin bound paving compares over the long term for commercial and larger residential applications.
| Resin Bound | Block Paving | Tarmac | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lifespan | 15-20+ years (commercial spec) | 10-15 years | 8-12 years |
| Ongoing Maintenance | Very low - sweep and rinse | Re-sanding, weed removal, block replacement | Patching and resurfacing needed |
| Drainage / SuDS | Fully permeable - SuDS compliant | Permeable if laid on open-graded base | Not permeable - drainage required |
| Appearance | Wide colour range, stays looking new | Can look good initially, ages unevenly | Plain black only, fades and cracks |
| Cost per m² | £100-£300 | £80-£200 | £40-£100 |
Our 10-Year Guarantee
Every resin driveway, pathway or patio we install comes with a 10-year workmanship guarantee covering the installation itself. That's not a figure we picked because it sounds good - it reflects what a correctly installed resin bound surface on a properly prepared sub-base is actually expected to last.
The guarantee is only worth something if the groundwork is right. Every job starts with a proper site assessment, and we'll always tell you upfront if the existing base needs more work before resin goes down - rather than cutting corners and hoping for the best. We don't subcontract: the team who quote your job are the team who install it.

How We Approach Larger Resin Paving Projects
Site Assessment & Specification
We visit the site, assess ground conditions, existing surfaces, drainage requirements and traffic loading. We prepare a written specification and quote at no cost or obligation.
Sub-Base Construction
Existing surfaces are removed or prepared. A new permeable sub-base is constructed to the correct depth and specification for the traffic loading, with appropriate drainage falls and edge containment.
Resin Installation
The resin and aggregate are machine-mixed and machine-laid or hand-trowelled across the prepared area in sections, achieving a consistent depth and finish throughout.
Inspection & Handover
After curing we carry out a final inspection, address any snagging, and hand over the 10-year guarantee and any relevant documentation for planning or building records.

What Our Customers Say
Feedback from homeowners across Bournemouth, Poole and the surrounding area.
"Really pleased with the driveway. We had an old cracked concrete drive that had been an eyesore for years. The team turned up on time, kept the site tidy, and the finished result looks great. The buff colour with the charcoal border was their suggestion and it suits the house perfectly."
Sarah M.
Poole
"Used Resin Driveways Bournemouth for a patio and side path. Couldn't fault them - straightforward quote, no pushy sales, turned up when they said they would and finished on time. The grey finish on the patio looks brilliant and is so easy to keep clean."
James T.
Bournemouth
"Had three quotes and went with these guys because they took the time to explain exactly what they were doing and why. The driveway has been down six months now and still looks brand new. Would recommend without hesitation."
Karen H.
Christchurch
"Had the driveway and the front path done at the same time. The guys matched the colour through from the drive to the path so it all flows nicely. Good value, well finished, no mess left behind."
Dave R.
Ferndown
"The patio at the back of our house was in a terrible state - old sunken slabs with weeds everywhere. The resin is a completely different level. Comfortable to walk on, no weeds, and it drains properly after rain. Wish we'd done it years ago."
Louise B.

What is resin paving and how does it differ from a standard driveway?
Resin paving is the term commonly used for larger-scale or commercial resin bound installations - car parks, commercial forecourts, communal parking areas, public footpaths and larger residential hardstanding. The material is identical to what we use on residential driveways: natural aggregate encapsulated in a UV-stable resin binder, trowelled to a smooth, permeable finish. The difference is in the specification - larger areas and higher traffic volumes require thicker depths of material, more robust aggregate blends, and greater attention to sub-base design and drainage. We carry out a full site assessment before quoting any larger project.
Is resin paving suitable for car parks?
Yes. Resin bound surfacing is used on car parks and commercial hardstanding throughout the UK, including in the Bournemouth and Poole area. For car park applications we specify a greater depth of resin and aggregate - typically 18-25mm over a correctly designed sub-base - and select aggregate blends suited to the expected traffic levels. The permeable nature of the surface is also particularly useful for larger impermeable areas that would otherwise require complex surface water drainage infrastructure. We assess traffic loading, vehicle types and turnover as part of the quote process.
Does resin paving need planning permission?
For residential resin paving, permitted development rules generally apply in the same way as for domestic driveways - permeable surfaces typically do not require planning permission. For commercial installations, planning requirements depend on the specific site, the nature of the use, and whether the works constitute a material change. BCP Council and Dorset Council both have planning portals where you can check permitted development rights for commercial properties, and we are happy to advise on what information you need to gather during the site visit.
Does resin paving meet SuDS drainage requirements?
Yes. Resin bound surfacing is permeable, so it meets Sustainable Drainage System requirements. This is increasingly important for commercial planning applications across the BCP area and in Dorset, where both local planning authorities have been implementing tighter surface water management conditions. A permeable surface also reduces or eliminates the need for traditional drainage channels and gullies in many situations, which can reduce overall project cost.
Can resin paving be used on a slope?
Yes, within limits. Resin bound surfacing can be installed on gradients, and many commercial car parks and access roads in the Bournemouth area have some degree of slope. For steeper gradients, we design the drainage falls carefully to ensure water exits at a controlled point rather than running across adjacent surfaces or into buildings. On very steep slopes, we sometimes recommend channel drains at the base rather than relying solely on the permeable surface to manage all the water. We cover all of this during the site assessment.
How long does commercial resin paving last?
On a correctly designed sub-base with the right depth and aggregate specification for the traffic loading, commercial resin paving should last 15-20 years with normal maintenance. The sub-base design is the critical factor for longevity - an undersized or poorly drained base will fail regardless of the resin quality on top. We provide a 10-year workmanship guarantee on commercial installations, which reflects our confidence in how we design and build the base.
What maintenance does resin paving need?
Resin bound paving is low-maintenance. Regular sweeping to remove debris, and an occasional jet wash or pressure rinse, is all that is typically required to keep the surface clean and the aggregate clear. There is no re-sanding, no joint weed treatment and no annual sealing. The lack of joints makes it significantly easier and cheaper to maintain than block paving over a typical commercial lease period.
Do you cover Bournemouth, Poole and the surrounding Dorset area for commercial resin paving?
Yes. We cover the whole BCP area plus the wider Dorset area and into Hampshire for commercial and larger residential resin paving projects. This includes Wimborne, Ferndown, Ringwood, Wareham, Dorchester, Weymouth and beyond. For larger commercial projects outside this area, contact us to discuss - we may be able to help depending on the project size and location.
